Check your CPD Compliance

Tēnā koutou katoa

The beginning of Spring is nearly upon us and as we head into the final quarter of the year members should be thinking about their annual CPD compliance.

The Institute certainly encourages members to do more than the minimum required for membership, because your leadership and development is critical to raising standards within the industry and among those who you work with.

The Property Institute is about to begin the annual process of auditing CPD, to ensure compliance with our rules, and for the valuation community, ensuring compliance with their legal and ethical obligations.

New technology means we are able to more accurately monitor the amount of CPD each member undertakes. This extra capacity has been developed over a number of years, in line with the priorities identified by the PINZ Board and NZIV Council.

As part of this process, both the Board and Council have adopted more transparent sanctions policies. The PINZ CPD & Sanctions Policy is HERE and the NZIV sanctions policy is HERE.

Members will note that these involve a sliding scale based on the seriousness of the non-compliance.
In recent years we have worked closely with a number of members who haven’t been meeting their annual CPD requirements, including rare cases where the required level of education has not been met for a number of years!

So, we are encouraging members to check your CPD diary in your member dashboard. If there are items missing you should update these as soon as possible. You will have to log into the website to do this.

Please contact the National Support Team if you run into difficulties.

If, on review, you are at risk of falling short you need have no fear, because there are a number of ways to get your numbers up before the end of the year.  In the coming couple of months we have a number of face-to-face events on offer.  These include (but are not limited to):

  • Massey Spring Seminar – September 4 & 5 (includes Standards and Ethics), day one is rural focused including a site tour of Massey farms. Members can choose to attend one day only or the full seminar.
  • Wellington Valuers Summit - September 21 (includes Standards and Ethics plus sessions on insurance and risk as well as Property Finance).
  • Virtual Valuers Summit – November 8 & 9 (includes Standards and Ethics).

On top of these bigger events, we continue to run our comprehensive online programme of live webinars, most of which are recorded and available for member purchase afterwards. Your Branches are also holding regular events which often also carry verified CPD points for attendance.

All of the details for the above, can be found on our EVENTS PAGE HERE, where you can register as well.

Lastly, a quick plug for our Property Professional magazine which was released recently. It features a comprehensive wrap-up of the National Property Conference, all the award winners and extended articles, including the impressions from one of our international delegates.

And don’t forget to check out the latest in the series of profiles on our Branch chairs. These volunteers give a generous amount of their time to keep PINZ vibrant and relevant.  We thank them for their service to the organisation and the property professions.

International Valuation Awareness Week is almost upon us again and we're urging members and businesses alike to consider ways they might recognise the profession.
Some ways Valuer members might do this could include something as simple as explaining the role to non-valuer colleagues, or those considering a future in property.
We'll be marking the week in a number of ways which you'll hear more about closer to the time.
