About our presenters

Mark Withers - Founder

I grew up in Warkworth, the son of highly respected chartered accountant. I’ve been a chartered accountant in public practice my entire career, from a clerk in the early days, to starting Withers Tsang with my business partner Stephen Tsang, in 1998.

I’m a regular commentator on property tax matters, and the author of “Property Tax – A NZ investors Guide”, the first book on the subject to be published in New Zealand. I am also a residential and commercial property investor.

Outside of professional life, I enjoy spending time with my two sons. I volunteer as a radio operator for the coast guard, and I’m a qualified windsurfing instructor. I also enjoy getting out on my electric bike.

I tell my clients ‘don’t leave wind to find wind’. It’s all about stickability – if you are in a good position, stay with it. If something is working, keep doing it. It’s a personal philosophy that has served me well for over 20-years.

Nick Ashford - Partner

Originally from Paeroa where my parents had their own retail business, it was during that time I experienced first hand the stress and cash-flow uncertainty caused by GST, PAYE, Income Tax, and the dynamics of a family business. It made me want to help, to become an accountant, and that passion for helping shapes the way I practice today.

Over the years I have been lucky enough to gain a wide range of knowledge, and drawing from Withers Tsang’s core foundation of property knowledge, both the tax and commercial aspects of business ownership, to tax residency and taxation of foreign investments. All of which puts me in front of real people, people that could lose sleep over money, people that I can help.
