Ben Gill

PINZ President and Central Region Representative

Ben is a Director in PwC’s real estate team in Wellington working with a range of public, private and not-for-profit sector clients. Ben specialises in strategic advisory, business cases and supporting organisations through periods of accelerated change.

Originally from Buckinghamshire in the UK, Ben previously worked at Her Majesty’s Treasury, the New Zealand Treasury, the New Zealand Defence Force and Deloitte Real Estate in London.

He holds an undergraduate degree in economics and post graduate degrees in housing development, construction and real estate. Ben is a former PINZ Young Leader, IPAC Committee Chair, Chair of the Wellington Branch of PINZ, PINZ Board Vice President. In 2021, Ben received the Property Advisor of the Year Award.

Claire Robinson

PINZ Vice President / NZIV Representative

After completing a Bachelor of Commerce (Valuation and Property Management) through a Future Leader Scholarship at Lincoln University Claire became a Registered Property Valuer in 2012.

Having joined Opteon within their commercial and advisory team, she spent eight years as a Certified Property Valuer and member of the Australian Property Institute (API) in Western Australia, before relocating back home to New Zealand in 2019. Claire is currently a Registered Valuer and Quality and Risk Manager within Opteon’s Professional Quality and Risk team.

She was the recipient of Opteon’s Emerging Professional Award (2015), and the Australian Property Institute (API) Young Achiever of the Year Award in 2017. Claire is currently the Property Institute Otago branch Deputy Chairperson.

Heather Beard

Board Member NZIV President

Heather joined Colliers International Queenstown in May 2014 as a valuer, becoming registered in 2017. Heather’s main responsibilities involve the completion of Current Market Valuations, Rental assessments, and Insurance Valuations of commercial and industrial properties throughout the Queenstown region. As well as Managed apartments, tourist accommodation properties, lifestyle and residential.

Nicola Lagan

Board Member Southern Representative

Nicola joined Bayleys Valuations Limited in 2018 and is a Registered Valuer. Nicola undertakes a range of valuations, including commercial, industrial and residential across the wider Canterbury market.

Regular assignments include valuations for finance purposes, financial reporting, market rental assessments, insurance valuations, and general valuation consultancy.

Nicola graduated from Massey University and Lincoln University with a BSc and Graduate Diploma of Urban Valuation. She gained registration to the New Zealand Institute of Valuers in 2021. Nicola is also a member of the Property Institute of New Zealand and has been involved in the Young Leaders Programme during 2020 and 2021. She is also a mentor for the Keystone Trust programme in 2022.

Avella Taylor

Board Member Northern Representative

Avella is a Regional Director at Opteon and Registered Valuer. Her current role includes the management of several contracts for Territorial Authorities across the North Island together with Local Government clients.

Avella relocated to New Zealand in 2017 and her experience comprises the completion of residential valuations for all purposes, financial reporting, project management and governance, innovation projects, employee engagement projects and procurement. Previously, Avella has completed mortgage valuations in Perth, Western Australia and throughout South Auckland

Avella became MPINZ in 2017 and joined the PINZ Branch Committee in 2020. In 2021, she was nominated and elected by her peers to Chair the Auckland Branch Committee. In that same year, Avella also joined the PINZ Standards Board and was awarded the Women in Property Award at the 2021 PINZ National Conference. Avella is passionate about education and innovation.

Vili Feiloivao

Board Member IPAC Chair

Vili Feiloivao is the Chair of the Institute of Property Advisors & Consultants of the Property Institute of New Zealand and is of Samoan, German and Chinese heritage.

Vili currently holds various roles in the institute including being the current chair for the Wellington Branch and member of the Membership Strategy Sub-Committee. He is the National Panel Valuation Manager for CoreLogic NZ maintaining key relationships between industry lenders and valuation firms, and holds particular experience in business development and strategy, stakeholder management, advisory services, and providing independent market valuations for mortgage lending purposes, feasibility analysis and development projects for multiple government agencies.

Helen Brumby

Board Member COMPRO Chair

Helen Brumby took over as Chair of the Commercial Property Managers Institute of New Zealand in 2022 having been a member of the COMPRO committee since 2015.

Helen is a Full Member of the Property Institute and has previously been a member of the Rotorua / Taupo Branch of PINZ, holding the position of Chair from 2011 to 2015. She was part of the PINZ Young Leaders Program from 2015 to 2017.

David Baxter

Board Member PMVI Representative

David is Registered Plant and Machinery Valuer. He is a past committee member of the PMVI Council and has previously been a member of the Property & Valuation Standards Board. He is a current Fellow of The Property Institute and is an active member of the Institutes Tauranga Branch Committee as well as being on the Institutes Life Membership Committee.

Donna Hurley

Independent Director

Donna is a partner in the Simpson Grierson resources and infrastructure group, advising local government and public sector clients on a range of issues, with a focus on property work and public works. She also specialises in property development, leasing, subdivision, acquisitions, and disposals of commercial property.

Benjamin Rotto

Observer / Future Leader

Ben is an active member of the Property Institute of New Zealand. He sits on the Executive Committee of the Central Otago branch of PINZ, and now assists graduate valuers on their path to registration.

Outside of work, Ben manages a non-profit organisation focused on the development of both adult- and junior-level hockey players in the Queenstown area.

Viv Gurrey

Observer / PINZ Chief Executive Officer

Viv joined the Property Institute in September 2019. Working in the NGO and private sectors – leadership and people have been the basis of Viv’s career for more years than she chooses to mention. Relationships are key. ‘You have to like people, really like them, genuinely understand them – and treat them well!’
