As a professional body, one of the key roles of the Property Institute is the provision of standards for New Zealand property and valuation professionals to adhere to.

As of the 1st of July 2017 both the Property Institute of New Zealand and the New Zealand Institute of Valuers formally adopted the 2017 International Valuation Standards for valuation practice.

All Property Institute members who hold current Annual Practicing Certificates are offered free access to the IVSC International Valuation Standards.

To cater for local issues, the Institute in conjunction with the Australian Property Institute has developed a series of Guidance Notes for applying the IVS to the Australian and New Zealand property environment. These also provide information for other property professions such as property management, property advisory and plant and machinery valuation. These guidance notes embody recognised good practice and can be found in the links provided. This website also provides information on current updates and exposure drafts and the linkages between the IVS and Australian and New Zealand Guidance Notes.
