1953 - 2018

By Paul Keane

It is with deep regret that the Property Institute of New Zealand marks the passing of John Patrick Dunn.

John died in North Shore Hospice, Auckland on Tuesday the 11th of December, after a short illness.

John was a registered Valuer, ANZIV , a Property Consultant and Fellow ( Life) FPINZ, and Holder of a Real Estate licence AREINZ.

He was an active member of the Property Management Institute prior to the merger in 2000, including a term as President.

For 20 years through to 2006, he led the Property Management Division of JLL, and during this time the company was the largest commercial Property Management provider in New Zealand. In 2006, he started his own property consulting business (John Dunn Property Consultancy Limited) and enjoyed the respect of such clients as Foodstuffs and Westfield.

John was on the judging panel of the Property Council of New Zealand Rider Levett Bucknall Property Industry awards for over 20 years and retired as convenor in 2017.

In 2017 John was awarded the prestigious New Zealand Property Councils Members Laureate and in 2018 he was recognised by his peers and awarded a Life Membership of the Property Institute of New Zealand. This was the only occasion during which just one person has held these two prestigious awards at the same time.

During John's long career of over 40 years, he was an active and valued member of the Property Council and the Property Institute with a deep and sincere enthusiasm for all aspects of Property and was a friend and mentor to many. His passing will be sorely missed by all in the Property Industry in New Zealand.

John is survived by his wife Marie and their three adult daughters Kiely, Kristin and Nicole. The Property Institute extends its deepest sympathy to Johns Family in their very sad loss.

John's life will be celebrated at a Requiem Mass on Saturday 15 December at St John's Mairangi Bay (87 Hastings Rd) at 1:00pm. Many thanks to the staff at Harbour Hospice for all their support and care and In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice PO Box 331129 Takapuna.
